2014 North Coast
Jan and I decided to take a road trip up the coast. We headed up highway 101 and 1 to Shell beach (our first stop) which is just north of Pismo Beach. The next day we spent in Cambria and dad's house relaxing and catching up on the latest news. We traveled straight up highway 1 through Big Sur, stopping frequently along the way to enjoy the views. the next 2 days we spent with my son exploring some areas of San Francisco I had never been to. we went up to the top of Twin Peaks, China Town, Little Italy, and Diamond Heights which had a couple of streets (actually steps) that ran down the hillside. We continued up Highway 1 stopping at the Point Reyes Lighthouse and Drakes bay, until we came to our next destination, Timber Cove Inn 10 miles north of Jenner. We spent the evening wining and dining at his beautiful romantic getaway. the next day we were off to the Russian River. as we were heading down Highway 1 we had to turn around and take a different route because of an oil tanker that flipped ,blocking the narrow road. It was a blessing in disguise as the narrow windy detour took us through the redwood forest and the pretty town of Cazedero. We had lunch at the Korbell Winery before heading to Armstrong Woods to view some giant redwoods. After checking in at the Hyatt Vineyards in Santa Rosa we headed to 4th street for dinner at La Bufa. La Bufa is a little restaurant I used to go to 20+ years ago. Drove back to Cambria the next morning for another visit ( and a place to crash). We drove straight back the next day, both of us tired and happy to be going home.
